Historical Fic-Train to Somewhere
The story, Train to Somewhere by Eve Bunting, tells the story of The Orphan Train and its hardships. The introduction is brief and tells the time period and setting the story takes place. It tells readers that The Orphan Train is real, but the town of Somewhere exists only on the map of the author's imagination. It tells the story of 14 orphans traveling West trying to find families to adopt them or their attempt to find their birth parents. Older couples would come and look at the children to chose a child they would like to adopt. The story is told from one of the orphan girl's perspective. It shows how difficult it was for the children to be separated from each other. The only hope they had to hold on to was if they don't get adopted too soon, they will be able to find their real parents. Each time the children are presented for adoption, they show off their abilities (manners, strenghts, talents, etc) to entertain the potential adoptive parents. The Orphan Train was started to help the 100,000 homeless children in New York find new families. I enjoyed this book because it has great morals throughout the story. The story portrays the hardships of The Orphan Train while all along staying hopeful. I also likes this book because I had never heard of The Orphan Train and would like to research further.
